Day at the Museum

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Yesterday Alexander and I did the Children’s Museum of Acadiana and later Toys R Us - just the two of us. We had a wonderful time as you can see from this photo of Alexander and Snoopy in front of Toys R Us. Our only bad moment was caused by his wanting the shopping cart instead of a toy in the museum store, so I took him to Toys R Us and bought him the Fisher Price version. That’s what grandparents are for, I hear, spoiling kids. (PS I’ll pay overdue visits soon, hopefully tomorrow. Ton of schoolwork after babysitting Saturday through Sunday.)

Spend the Afternoon

Rosey Posey PixelsOne day this week I will attempt to teach pastoral poetry to teenagers. They may enjoy it, but of course they won’t quite get it. Still looking forward to each birthday that brings them nearer to that golden age of twenty-one, they are entirely too young to think about time as anything but their friend.

I myself am very fond of the carpe diem theme, as one cannot be reminded too often to “seize the day.” These thoughts seem made for wordsmiths like Annie Dillard, author of one of my favorite quotes, “Spend the afternoon. You can’t take it with you.”

I love this time of year, so we spent our afternoon taking a Sunday drive. After eating barbecue at a new place in Broussard, we did our grocery shopping at Fresh Market in Lafayette before returning to Home Depot in Broussard on the way back to New Iberia. Matt called at 4:30 or thereabouts for a babysitter, so Roy went over while I reluctantly graded papers and did lesson plans. I was jealous and said so when he returned around 7:00, but he made me feel better by saying Alexander brought him his shoes to leave when his parents came home. We laughed at that one.
