Every day I check the projected path of Ike and feel so thankful it is not targeting Acadiana. We’re suffering from hurricane fatigue down here. Even though some of us will be traveling north again this weekend, it won’t involve the incredible traffic we experienced during the Gustav evacuation.

My sister Jane is in the hospital, and Matt, Ashley, Alexander, and I will start the eight-hour trip to Little Rock Thursday after school. Our brother Jim is flying in from the Reno area on the same day, and we’ll also see her two children, Clay, who lives in Chicago, and Samantha, who lives in Little Rock. Jane, a retired special education supervisor, and her husband Charles run a unique bed and breakfast called Palaver Place in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, although Charles continues to work as a psychologist. We are very concerned about Jane, as she is a colon cancer survivor and experiencing multiple organ failure at this time.

My high school friend Jody keeps our class of 1966 up to date on things, and yesterday she shared a link to a little presentation you might enjoy if you remember the music of that era: Take Me Back to the Sixties.

Hi Julia: I’m so sorry about your sister, Jane. My prayers are with you. I love Palaver Place how unique. No, I’d never chase the deer away even if I can’t make jelly! They’re so beautiful. HUGS

Hi Julia, I’m so grateful you are being spared Ike, I am sorry for Texas and Galveston and some of it will venture up into Oklahoma, mostly the eastern part.I suspect we’ll have storms here, but hopefully not all that bad. You know you are always in my prayers. I am praying for your sister. Please keep us posted on how it is going. Sending lots of love and ~hugs~

Hello my friend,
I’m so sorry to read about your sister, what a very difficult time for you and your family, my thoughts are with you. Their B&B looks superb, my Dave would especially like it as shooting and fishing are his two most favourite pastimes.
Thinking of you and I will come back to see if you’ve updated soon.
Big hugs xxx

Hi Julia, I hope your sister feels better soon. It’s so difficult when loved ones are far. I was also checking Ike path & I was so grateful when I saw it turning toward Texas. I hope things calm down for a bit now. Have a nice week, hugs
