Cranford
I treasure the last few hours of a Sunday, looking back at work done or not, and looking forward to crawling into fresh linens to watch Masterpiece on PBS. Not tonight as previously reported, but May 4, there will be a special treat, the beginning of a three-part adaptation of Cranford by Mrs. Gaskell. I first read Cranford in a graduate course in Victorian short fiction taught by a Dr. Georgas at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. I was living with my sister Jane and her two children at the time but eventually left them for a man in Louisiana. I don’t think she’s ever forgiven me for that, not that she wants me back. Anyway, I see they have retained the delightful cow scene from the book. I remember the day Dr. Georgas separated the readers from the pretenders over that cow.

I was delighted that you had talked about Masterpiece Theater on your blog. I ran to the TV not knowing if started at 8:00 or 9:00 and by looking at the TV guide I found out that it’s starts on May 4…I signed up for the newsletter….I always forget about Masterpiece Theater. Just this morning I was so excited to read in the newspaper that Atonement was coming on our Pay For View TV…..today was the perfect day to watch as it was again raining……I go to the guide on the TV and it’s not there! I was so disappointed as I have been waiting so long to see the movie. Grrrrrrrr! Maybe it will be on this week! Ciao!

Hi Julia,
That looks like a good movie. I like Judi Dench. I don’t think I ever saw a movie that she was in that I didn’t like.
Have a wonderful Monday. I am counting down the days until Brian is finally on summer vacation. I am tiring of this daily routine and so is he.
Love and hugs

Hi Julia: I love Judy Dench! Yes, you’d think they could straighten out my meds. I’m so tired of this. My friend had the week off and we did nothing as I could do nothing but lay around and be sick. Have a great day. HUGS

I’m so sorry about the blips at my blog, such a nuisance.
Lots of hugs and love xxx
Oh Julia you will absolutely adore Cranford. It had rave reviews here. It was very cleverly adapted and appealed to all sorts of people. Judi Dench is as wonderful as ever, an understated, modest performance allowing others to shine. Actors to watch out for: Eileen Atkins, Imelda Staunton (hilarious), Michael Gambon (very moving) and Philip Glenister. It’s probably a disservice to pick out just a few as everyone is superb, you won’t be disappointed.
I actually recorded all the episodes as I knew that I’d want to watch it again some time

Hi Julia, I will have a hard time remember, but will try to watch Cranford. Wasn’t that a great quote from EBB. I love her poetry. I also love that poem by her husband. So romantic. I also joined netflix the lowest package, but 2 movies a month will be just right. I added atonement to my list. They are suppose to ship the first one today. Glad to hear that you seem to have had a relaxing week-end. *smiles* Love and ~hugs~
